Riot Tournament Modes - SMS Verification

In order to participate in Tournament Modes like League of Legends Clash or VALORANT Premier, you'll need to register your account to a cell phone number. This security step is meant to prevent players from entering tournaments with smurfs.

You'll only need to go through this process once (if you verify for Clash, then you’re automatically verified for Premier and vice versa), and can only attach one Riot account to your phone number.

League of Legends: How to verify for Clash

  1. In the Clash tab of the client, click Team and the Confirm SMS button next to your name.
  2. Enter your country code, followed by your area code and phone number. You can find country codes here.
  3. We'll send you a text message with a secret code; enter that, and your Riot account will be SMS verified.

VALORANT: How to verify for Premier

  1. In the Premier tab of the client, in the Verify Now panel on the right, click Verify.

Note: If you see a Create a Team panel on the right instead of Verify Now, that’s because you’re already verified and meet all the eligibility criteria to create or join a Premier team. You can skip the rest of the following steps.
  2. Enter your country code, followed by your area code and phone number. You can find country codes here.
  3. We'll send you a text message with a secret code; enter that, and your account will be SMS verified.

FAQ

CAN I LINK MORE THAN ONE RIOT ACCOUNT TO THE SAME PHONE NUMBER?
Sorry, no. One Riot account per phone number.

I'M GETTING A "SOMETHING WENT WRONG" ERROR.
Following these guidelines should help!

  • Make sure you're correctly entering the country code in the left field, with your full 10 digit phone number in the right field.
  • If you're using a non-standard resolution (4:3), sometimes switching to 16:9 can help with entering the code.
  • If you receive an error, please wait 10 minutes before trying again. If you request a code 3+ times in 5 minutes, your request will be rate-limited and no messages will be sent.

I'M BEING TOLD MY PHONE NUMBER IS INVALID.
Some types of phones and carriers aren't eligible for SMS verification because they're easy to spoof. Internet phone numbers like Google Voice, for example, won't work as verification.

I'M NOT RECEIVING A SECRET CODE!
It can take up to two hours for your phone or carrier to deliver the message. If two hours have passed and you still haven't received your code, restart the SMS verification process and make sure you've entered your phone number correctly, then kick back and wait for your code to arrive.

I RECEIVED THE CODE, BUT I'M GETTING AN ERROR MESSAGE WHEN I ENTER IT.
If you requested verification multiple times, you might be entering an out-of-date code that's already been overwritten by a new one. Try restarting the SMS verification process (taking care to enter all your information accurately!), then wait for the new code. As mentioned above, it may take up to two hours, so just like waiting for the critical moment to plant the spike or tower dive, patience is a must.

I DON'T SEE MY COUNTRY CODE.
Try scrolling through the entire list! There's a known issue where some countries don't appear in alphabetical order due to special characters.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I WANT TO REMOVE MY PHONE NUMBER FROM THIS ACCOUNT?
You can remove your phone number from your account! Just keep in mind that a 6 month waiting period begins at the moment you unlink your account. If you ever want to re-link the same phone number, you'll have to wait till the initial six month period has elapsed from the time of your first unlink. We do this to prevent players from using one phone to jump between multiple accounts. Keep in mind that this phone number is used for both Clash and Premier, so if you remove it from one game, this affects your ability to play in any other tournament mode as well and you’ll have to wait six months to relink your phone number to any other Riot account.

Having trouble linking or removing a phone number?

You can resolve most of these types of issues here.

I'VE ADDED MY PHONE NUMBER TO THE WRONG ACCOUNT!
Unfortunately, we can't help you with this. You'll have to unlink your phone number and wait six months to use the number again.

I USE DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS FOR DIFFERENT GAMES!
Sorry, but if you use one Riot account for VALORANT and one Riot account for League of Legends, you cannot use the same phone number for both Riot accounts. You will need to choose one Riot account on which to participate in Riot tournament modes across all games. Remember: If you unlink from one account, you’ll need to wait six months before you can use the same phone number on another account. Player Support will not be able to work around this restriction for you.

DO I NEED TO LINK MY PHONE NUMBER FOR BOTH TOURNAMENT MODES?
No, they use the same system, so as long as you have one Riot account for both games, when you’ve linked your phone number in one game, you’re good to go for all tournament modes!

CLASH FAQ

CAN I SMS VERIFY MY SMURF/ALT ACCOUNT WITH HIGHER HONOR?
No. Your highest-ranked account must be Honor level 2 in order for you to participate in Clash. If you find that you've participated in Clash with a lower-ranked account that meets the Honor requirement, we'll remove any Clash-specific rewards and render the account ineligible for future Clash tournaments. Your teammates' rewards may also be revoked if we find that your team won due to a team mismatch caused by smurfing.
