Premier || Team Creation & Management

Looking to create your own team and forge a path to the top? You're in the right place! Read on to find out what it takes to be a Premiere Team Owner.

What makes someone a Team Owner, and what are they responsible for?

Creating the team makes you the Team Owner. Owners can transfer the ownership to another team member at any time. If they simply leave without changing ownership, it’ll automatically pass to whomever's been there the longest.

  • Team Owners can invite/remove players and assign one player as the Team Captain, who can also invite/remove players.
  • Team Owners don't need to join every matchthe party leader queues the team for matches and locks in the team's choices for map picks and bans.

  • Only Team Owners can delete their team.

Team Owners are also often the team's anchor for communication. Coordinate match times with your team and get your team to show up on time for the queue windows. But also remember there may be storms ahead and the Team Owner can help weather them and set the tone for everyone. Keep your team engaged and spirits high!

What does the Team Captain do?

Team Owners can designate one player as the Team Captain, a special role that's able to invite and remove any teammates outside of the Team Owner.

Creating a Team

If you wanna win it all, you're gonna need a team.

Thankfully, it's easy to make one in the Premier tab of the VALORANT client:

  1. Choose a team name (5-15 characters) and a team tag (1-5 characters).
Can I change my team name later?
🚫 You can't change your team name and tag once you leave the Create Team window. To change your team name for any reason, you'd need to delete and re-create the team. If you need to do it, be sure to do before your first match.
Team Name/Riot ID Combos Can Be Reported
If your team tag and your Riot ID create an inappropriate combination, you can be reported, which will result in both your team tag and your Riot ID being forcibly changed.
  2. Customize your team logo and colors. These can be changed by the Team Owner at any time.
  3. Add your teammates. Premier teams have 5-7 players. Don't worry about MMR disparity—anyone can join and your provisional division (which appears as soon as your team is created) will be determined by your top 5 players' average MMR.
    Troubleshooting invites
    • Check your eligibility status on the Premier tab of the Career page.
    • Check that they're not already on another team. (Players can be on only one team roster at a time.)
    • Check whether they had a recent penalty or restriction on their account. Receiving any kind of behavior penalty or restriction makes players ineligible to join a Premier Team or queue up for Premier matches for 30 days from the start of the penalty.
    • If your team is already in Contender/Invite, then you can only add players with Contender Eligibility, which you get if in the current OR previous Stage you:
      • Played a Weekly or Playoff match on a team in Contender or Invite.
      • Reached Immortal 3 or higher peak rank in Competitive.
      • Played in the playoff tournament in Elite 5.
    • Other Eligibility Reminders:
      • Make sure they verified their account.
      • They must have completed at least one ranked placement in their account's lifetime.
      • Remind them to be on their best behavior so they don't get bans or restrictions (which will disqualify them for the rest of the current Premier Stage). When teammates are disqualified, they remain on the team (with a message by their name in the lobby), but they can't queue.
  4. Pick a zone for your best server option.
    • Throughout this Stagefrom Weekly Matches all the way to the Playoff Tournamentyou will only compete with teams in your same division and zone.
    • 🚫 Your zone is locked in after your first match, but can be changed any time before then.
    • Contender/Invite teams don't pick a zone. They're instead automatically placed the correct zone when promoted from Contender Division and can't change out of it.
  5. Lock and load, because you're ready to rock.

Inviting Teammates

It's a good idea to invite all the people you'd most want to play with before your first match, and things get a little more restrictive once you're locked into a division. Your initial placement will then be determined by the MMR of the top 5 players on your team. If there's a big difference in skill, then you may be placed in a higher division to give more weight to your best player's MMR.

Once you've played your first match, your division locks in as determined by your top 5 players' average MMR. After this point, Team Owners/Captains cannot invite players who would move the team’s current division

Removing teammates

🚫 BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE A TEAMMATE AFTER YOUR FIRST MATCH OF THE STAGE: If you remove a teammate, there is no guarantee that you can re-add them. If their MMR would bump your team to a different division, they cannot be re-added.

Weekly Matches

Now that you've got your team, let's quickly talk about your next step: Weekly Matches. Here are some reminders:

  • Review the match schedule in the Premier tab of the client.
  • It's one map per week.
  • Both teams and individuals are limited to 🔫 2 matches per week. That means if you play 2 matches on one team and then switch teams in the same week, you will not be able to play any more matches that week.
  • Gather your crew and get into queue as early as you can in a queue window to ensure you find a match
  • Don't worry if you get overwhelmed by a skilled opponent—weekly matches have rematch protection, so you usually won't face the same team twice in the same Stage (unless the queue is taking a very long time).

Note: Practice Matches on the schedule don't count towards your Premier MMR or your team's Premier Score. They are purely scrims to get some practice within your division.

Start Playing Any Time

No enrollment necessary! You can create your team and start playing anytime during the Stage.
