Let me guess. You hopped in-game, ready to take down your opponents, when you noticed some rather obvious black bars book ending your game. If you're wondering about those black bars, or you're here to satisfy your screen-curiosity, hopefully I can provide an explanation.
So, what's with the black bars?
A whole host of resolutions are supported for VALORANT, but the list is not comprehensive. If you're playing in an unsupported resolution (notably those that are extra wide), the black bars will essentially crop your screen to the supported resolution.
Supported Resolutions
4:3 aspect ratio
640×480, 800×600, 960×720, 1024×768, 1280×960, 1400×1050, 1440×1080, 1600×1200, 1856×1392, 1920×1440, and 2048×1536.
5:4 aspect ratio*
1280 x 1024
*While this resolution is supported, issues may pop up if playing in full-screen mode. As such, I'd recommend playing in windowed mode instead.
16:9 aspect ratio
1024×576, 1152×648, 1280×720 (HD), 1366×768, 1600×900, 1920×1080 (FHD), 2560×1440 (QHD), 3840×2160 (4K), and 7680 x 4320 (8K)*
*Please note that if your screen supports 8K it will actually be converted to 4K while playing VALORANT.
16:10 aspect ratio*
1280×800, 1440×900, 1680×1050, 1920×1200, and 2560×1600.
*While this resolution is supported, issues may pop up if playing in full-screen mode. As such, I'd recommend playing in windowed mode instead.
21:9 aspect ratio*
2560×1080, 3440×1440, 5120×2160.
*While this resolution is supported, issues may pop up if playing in full-screen mode. As such, I'd recommend playing in windowed mode instead.
