We are aware of an issue with a Weekly Mission that's requiring 100 matches for completion instead of 10, and we're working on a solution. Check our X (formerly Twitter) announcement for details.

Chargebacks

What is a Chargeback?

A chargeback happens when a bank reverses a purchase of in-game paid currency made from your account. In-game paid currencies include:

  • RP in League of Legends
  • Coins in Legends of Runeterra
  • VP in VALORANT
  • Wild Cores in Wild Rift
  • TFT Coins in TFT Mobile

If you don’t remember reversing the payment, the bank or credit card owner may have done it for you. Or, you may have made a purchase through a third party, and they later reversed the payment. If you’ve lost access to your account due to someone making purchases from it, submit a ticket and we’ll do what we can to help.

League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, Wild Rift, and Teamfight Tactics Chargeback Policy

To combat potential fraud, Riot has a few rules in regards to how it deals with chargebacks for the games listed above:

  • Your Riot Account will be suspended once a chargeback occurs. You may be able to regain access to your account by repaying the amount owed (more info on that below).
  • If a chargeback occurs on a gifting transaction, both the Riot Account sending the gift and receiving it will be suspended.
  • Fraud alerts and Requests for Information (where the cardholder or card-issuing bank verifies the authenticity of a transaction) may be treated as chargebacks.
  • If a single Riot Account has multiple chargebacks, Riot has the right to perma-ban that account.

VALORANT Chargeback Policy after June 4, 2024

If you get a chargeback for VALORANT after June 4, 2024, our systems will automatically recover that balance using your current VP along with content purchased with VP. That means weapon skins, agents, and other items purchased with VP proportional to the outstanding balance may be removed from your account (don't worry—if removed content is worth VP more than you owe, you'll be given the difference).

If you're still in the negative after all eligible content has been removed, you can still play, but you won't be able to make additional purchases with VP until you restore your balance to positive by getting more VP.

If you received a chargeback BEFORE June 4, 2024, then all the same rules as our other games apply: your account will be banned until you follow the steps listed below.

How to Repay Your Chargeback

However a chargeback happens, you can regain access to your account by paying the balance (unless you’ve been perma-banned for multiple chargebacks).

We want to make getting back into your game as painless as possible, so check the list of payback options below to see which works best for you!

FAQ

MY ACCOUNT WAS HACKED. WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE ELSE MADE THESE PURCHASES?

First, make sure you've got sole access to your email account, and change the password. Second, submit a ticket. We'll reverse any purchases that we can tell weren't made by you.

I PURCHASED VP/RP/PREMIUM CURRENCY THROUGH A 3RD-PARTY DEALER, COMPLETELY LEGITIMATELY!
You should never have to buy premium currency through a third party. If you're having trouble buying premium currency any other way, submit a ticket. If the third party is cutting you a deal, they're likely not as legitimate as they claim. If you receive a chargeback after making a third-party purchase, you'll still need to repay the full balance due yourself.
WHY CAN'T YOU JUST REMOVE THE PURCHASES I MADE?
Removing purchases would be a refund, and chargebacks aren't refunds (which are outlined in our Global Refund Policy).

Banks consider chargebacks to be fraudulent activity—they'll only reverse a payment if they believe it's unauthorized or otherwise suspicious. We get fined each time a chargeback happens, and too many chargebacks means some banks and card companies may stop doing business with us, which reduces the number of payment methods we can make available. In order to keep payment methods open worldwide, we have to take chargebacks seriously.
I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY THIS BACK, WHAT CAN I DO?
The suspension will stay on your account until your balance is repaid, but it’s not going anywhere. If you don’t want to repay right away, you don’t have to—you just won’t be able to access your account.
