Age Verification

Some regions may require age verification to play Riot games. If that's the case, you'll be prompted to prove your age through a variety of means before you can continue playing. If you're an underage player, your parent/guardian will instead have to go through the process, after which they can guide your online play through the Parent Portal.

Underage Players

If you're too young to play our games without parental consent (the exact age varies by region), you will be required to submit your parent or guardian's email to get their approval:

Be sure to ask them what the right email is, then they can follow the steps below to get you set up.

Restricted Games for Minors

In accordance with Brazil's ECA Digital Act, minors are unable to play games rated 18+ even with parental consent. However, if they get approval from their parents now through the Riot parent portal, they will have access to the game immediately when the games go back to their original ratings. At the moment VALORANT is the only Riot game with a rating low enough to enable play for some minors with consent, but there's a chance some of our other games will receive new age ratings in 2027. Until then, we'll protect your account's data until you come of age.

Adults and Parents of Underaged Players

In some regions, adults and parents of underage players must verify their age before playing or choosing settings for their child's play.

For parents/guardians in particular, the link sent to you via email will bring you to the Parent Portal to begin the parent verification and approval process. We suggest bookmarking this link as it will always bring you back to the Parent Portal to adjust settings down the line, but saving the email is just as good!

To prove that you are an adult, you must submit information like a credit card or government ID that will be processed through Kids Web Services (KWS), a third-party service. Don't worry—Riot doesn't store or access any of this personal information, it's only used by KWS to confirm you're an adult. For more information on that process and to learn more about how they handle your information, check KWS' Privacy Policy.

Once verified, you'll be prompted to read and accept our Terms of Use and Privacy Notice as a last step.

Once verification is complete, adults can start playing right away and parents/guardians will get access to the Parent Portal, where you can manage permissions for your child on our platform. The original link you were sent as the first step of the verification process will always grant you access to the portal, and you can request a new link if needed.

"Access to your account is paused" Message

If you're seeing this message, it's because we've determined you are underage, your parent or guardian has completed their age verification, and they've chosen to disable access for this game. If you want to play, your best bet is to talk it over with your parent/guardian. Otherwise, we'll safeguard your account for you until you turn 18 and are able to complete your own age verification.
