In order to play Competitive Queue, we'll require Riot Mobile MFA verification for those of you who are ranked Ascendant or above, as well as for accounts that are suspected to be shared between people.
Why are you doing this?
We all know the feeling of playing against a more experienced player using an alternate or someone else's account. The Riot Mobile MFA requirement for Ranked games is expected to decrease smurfing and make everyone's games more sportsmanlike.
Additionally, most of the accounts that are stolen don't have MFA turned on. Enabling it seriously boosts your account security, so it's a great idea to enable it even if it's not required for your account.
How do I know if I need to enable Riot Mobile MFA?
If you're required to turn MFA on when trying to join Competitive Queue, you'll see a Verify Account button in place of the Start button. You won't be able to play Ranked until you go through the verification process.
How do I verify my account?
We gotcha! Check out our Multi-Factor Authentication How-to & FAQ to learn how to activate Riot Mobile MFA.
I'm Ascendant now; will I still need MFA if my rank drops?
Yep. Any account that reaches Ascendant or higher needs to verify, with no expiration date.
Is this mandatory for all regions?
Yes! While this originally started for the BR, KR, LATAM and NA regions, it is also live for EU and APAC:
- For BR, KR, LATAM and NA, it was implemented on October 28, 2025
- For EU, it was implemented on January 21, 2026
- For APAC, it was implemented on February 18, 2026
Can I use the authenticator app instead?
Nope, Ranked verification requires the use of Riot Mobile MFA.
